Localities in Morbi

Morbi City Street

Initially the town of Morbi was located on the left bank of River Machchu. However, with passage of time, the city has spread in different directions and a large tract of land on the right bank of Machchu has also been included within its jurisdiction. We will start our tour from Sanala Road running right through the city.

Sanala Road in Morbi

State Highway 22, which starts from Halvad and culminate at Jambuda, runs through the middle of Morbi. However, this particular stretch, which runs through Morbi City, is known as Sanala Road. It is one of the most important roads of the city.  The Nagar Dwaraja, one of the three historical gates in Morbi, is located on it. Sardar Baug, one of the five gardens maintained by the Nagar Palika, is another important landmark here.

Hotels, banks and shops located on Sanala Road

Other than the Nagar Dwaraja and Sardar Baug, the New Bus Stand is possibly the most important landmark of Sanala Road. Important of hotels such as Mahesh Hotel, Manali Hotel, Subh Hotel, Hotel Ashirwad etc are also located on it.  The City restaurant, one of the town’s primer restaurants is also located on this road. Some of the banks located directly on this road are Allahabad bank, Andhra Bank, State bank of India, Cosmos Bank, Syndicate Bank etc.

Besides, the road is also a shoppers’ paradise. Apart from scores of shop that offer various types of wares, the recently built Sky Mall is a great attraction here. Apna Mall, Paramchand Complex etc also offer great shopping experience.

Area on the right side of Sanala Road

The Old Morbi

Many important localities are situated on both sides of Sanala Road. If you face the Navlakhi Road you will have areas like Kayaji Plot, Shakti Plot and Lakhdhirwas, Yegesh Nagar, Amrut Nagar, Ravapar located on right side (river side) of this road. The vegetable market and the City police Station too fall on this side of the road.

In fact, the area between Sanala Road and River Machchhu was the original location of the Morbi City. Places such as Old Morbi and Lakhdhirwas are situated in this area. Kubernath and Mani Mandir are two ancient temples in this area. The Jail Road and Ravapar Road are two important roads on this side of Sanala Road.

The State Highway 24, also known as Morbi-Rajkot Highway meets Sanala Road from the left side. The Canal Road, Kannya Chhtalay Road, Vavdi Road are three other important roads joining Sanala Road from left. The New Bus Stand, which is considered one of the landmarks of this area, is located between the Sanala Road and Kanyya Chhatralay road. The Government Hospital, Krishna Multispecialty Hospital and the Old Bus Stand are three other important landmarks located on this side of the road. Among the important localities located on this side of the plot are Sardar Nagar, Lati Plot, Savsar Plot, Madhapar, Mahendra Para etc.

Crossing River Machchu

If you want to cross the River Machchu and go to its right bank there are two options. You can take a right turn either at Nagar Dwaraja or at the juncture of Navlakhi Road. In the first case, the road will take you to the Suspension Bridge, locally known as Julta Pull. In the second case, you will have to cross the river using the old Mayur Bridge. Either way, you will ultimately reach the National Highway 8-A., the most important road on the right bank of River Machchu.

Important places on the right bank of River Machchu

However, if we are talking about the most important building on the right side of the river, it is going to be the Administrative Building located near Lalbagh. The Nazarbaugh Railway Station too is located on this side of the river. The third most important landmark here is the engineering collage set up the late Maharaja Lakhdhirjee. Kesar Baugh is the fourth most important place here.

NH 8-A and some more important places on the right bank

If Sanala Road is the most important road on the left bank of river Machchu, NH 8-A is the most important road on its right bank. Lalpar, Jetpar, Rafaleshwar are few of the important localities here.

 Many major industrial houses have set up their factories along Nh 8-A. Among them, the Ajanta Complex must come first. There are also a number of star hotels located in this stretch of the city. Shiv Ajanta Hotel, Adarsh Hotel, Avadh Hotel, Gurukrupa Hotel, Hotel Ashwamegh, Hotel The Grand Vaibhav etc are just few of them.
